BW Furlong & Associates is an equine veterinary practice headquartered in Oldwick, NJ. The practice employs 13 veterinarians that practice in the Northeast, as well as 3 that practice in Florida and Virginia under the name Peak Performance Equine Services. It is an extremely fast-paced and busy practice, serving and caring for some of the most prestigious clientele in the country. The main practice consists of a full service ambulatory division, as well as a 4 acre facility that houses a full service 12 stall hospital, stallion collection station, lab, and advanced imaging capabilities. It also has separate properties that include a standing MRI and a rehabilitation center. Employees of the practice are highly self-motivated, out-going, problem solvers, and always willing to do what is best for the patients. The reproduction case-load includes using both fresh and frozen semen for artificial insemination, performing broodmare synchronization and preparing for embryo transfer. The practice also provides fetal wellness exams and broodmare-specific vaccinations year-round. In addition to providing full service care and performance exams for her established sport horse barns,  Dr. Gray oversees the reproduction caseload of the practice.   

Responsibilities

  • Provide ambulatory assistance to Dr. Gray in all aspects of veterinary care
  • Assist in record keeping and billing
  • Jogging and lunging patients for soundness exams
  • Perform lab work as necessary
  • Stock and manage ambulatory inventory
  • Assist in stallion collection, handling, and semen processing
  • Provide assistance in hospital as necessary

Qualifications

  • Strong education & work background in equine medicine/health
  • Background of working with, or demonstrated interest, in reproduction is preferred
  • Background in handling horses, including stallions and mares and foals
  • Good time management and multitasking skills
  • Capable of handling patient emergency situations
  • An outstanding team attitude and work ethic
  • Quick-thinker, self-motivated, and a fast learner

Hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8a-5p, with some flexibility. Employment is seasonal and offered through August 30, 2016. Benefits include hourly pay commensurate with experience and discounted veterinary services and products.
